| Waste Management: How does your business manage waste? |
|
Measuring the amount of material that is re-used, recycled or goes to landfill is useful in minimising waste. Priority have a Waste Management System and recently upgraded facilities to better measure, control and report waste levels. The new facilities allow the separation of waste and recyclable material from their office as well as waste material generated through the construction process. Internally, colour coded waste-stations associate different types of waste, blue for paper/cardboard, yellow for mixed recyclables and red for landfill waste. Larger bins are located on site to take the separated waste, which is collected, weighed and recorded to confirm the quantities recycled and put in landfill. Individual bins at each workstation have been replaced with paper/cardboard waste-stations. This is a cultural changed that encourages staff to consider the amount of waste going to landfill by focusing and measuring the amount of waste and material recycled. This system has been adapted from other businesses that occupy Green Star Rated office space or want to minimise waste. By developing this system Priority will be able to assist tenants and the businesses they work with to establish integrated waste management facilities during site selection and the design of office spaces.
