Complete Building Certification

Complete Building Certification (CBC) is a Brisbane-based company who work within the construction industry.

They needed to relocate their office to keep up with recent expansion, get ready for future growth and create a new corporate image that matched their professionalism and culture. To help them we provided advice on setting a budget for the project, select sustainable finishes and designed a positive workplace for their staff and successfully used our 3-step Design+Construct process to get the project done on time and within budget.

Step 1: Feasibility
Their floor plan was a good starting point for the project and gave us a clear understanding of their brief and what they wanted. The brief centred on two key areas: culture and sustainability. Knowing this and what the project needed to achieve we helped them set a project budget developed a unique design concept with 3D computer generated images and a full range of sample finishes and colour swatches. In this early stage of the project, they were able to see what they were getting and knew how much it would cost. It only took a little over a week to give them this information and three days later they had committed to the project.

Step 2: Pre-Construction
Once they committed to the project, we started preparing a fixed price proposal. The design was further developed and a full project scope of works. This full range of information was put into a single document along with a construction program with precise start and end dates and presented it to CBC with our design concept. It took less than two weeks to get them to this stage and after a few minor adjustments to the scope and price CBC signed our contract formally accepting the project and started planning the relocation.

Step 3: Construction
While their project took shape they could see the benefit of spending a little more time to expand some of the design specifications, particularly with the reception counter. This meant changing the scope and design while work was in progress. Choosing the Design+Construct approach gave them the flexibility to quickly make these changes without delaying or adding significant costs. To action these changes our Project Manager placed manufacturing orders on hold and briefed the Designer and Estimator assigned to the project who worked together to document and cost the changes and provided the client with the necessary variations for approval and had minimal impact on the Construction Program.
